How We Do It

Plenty of firms promise to finish projects on time and on budget.  But as a smart vessel owner, you know that projects are complicated.  DMS focuses on our process.  How do we let you take control of your project and still maintain quality engineering?

Rather than taking the project away from you, I enable you to have more control over the entire project.  As the engineer, my job is to explain the rules.  But I leave the decisions to you.

Project Process

The project process starts before you even commit to working with DMS.  Right from the beginning, I work to ensure you understand the technical challenges and prepare with solutions.

Step 1

Get a free technical briefing to discuss your project and learn the major engineering concerns for what you plan.

Step 2

If you want to move forward, DMS prepares a proposal for engineering services

You control the details for the work.  Want to save budget and handle some work in-house?  DMS can act in a mentoring capacity, providing oversight.  Want full engineering support?  DMS can perform full design, analysis, and provide construction drawings.  We customize the project to meet your goals.

Step 3

The project kicks off with an initial meeting (video conference, phone conference, or in person)

The meeting includes a technical briefing, where I highlight the relevant engineering points you need to consider. Technical briefings are short and focused on only the immediate interests.

Step 4

DMS performs engineering tasks to match your specifications.  If the project changes, we can easily adapt and match our support for your needs.

You get to review all deliverables submitted by DMS.  Make edits, request changes, ask for style changes, etc.  DMS then incorporates those revisions into the deliverables.  In the end, you get exactly what you wanted, customized down to the last word on the report.

Every major report includes a short technical briefing.  These short presentations allow you to quickly integrate the engineering and make operational decisions.

Step 5

As the project evolves, more technical briefings are scheduled as necessary. We keep them all short, focusing only on the relevant developments.

Technical Briefing

Technical briefings form the heart of how DMS integrates with your team.  No one wants to read long winded engineering reports.  DMS still must supply all the details in those engineering reports.  But you need faster project decisions and less time wasted on reports.  That is why DMS also provides a technical briefing with every major report.

Technical briefings let you quickly gain awareness of the engineering results.  DMS provides a short presentation, limited to the critical results, with a question and answer session afterward.

All technical briefings contain the same major subjects, every time.  We keep every session focused and on target.
