Structural Lofting

A typical ship structure includes extensive interactions between plates, beams, and brackets.  And each piece is a different length or shape, due to the constantly changing shape of the ship’s hull.  But this complexity gets framed by a repetitive organization.  Frames repeat at regular spacing.  Longitudinals follow horizontal paths.  Intersections between bulkheads and stiffeners utilize standard details for the cutouts.  The regular nature of ship structures allows great efficiency from automation.

DMS works with the program Maxsurf Structure to rapidly develop 3D models of the vessel structure.  The program builds up from the hull surface definition.  Changes to the hull shape automatically update in the hull structure.  With this program, DMS can develop the full structural model in a few days.  Export options include Rhino 3D models or 2D drawings.  We can draw expanded views of developable and doubly curved plates.

With MaxSurf Structure, DMS rapidly progresses from a simple hull model to a set of production drawings.
